Opinions of the web site Pro Football Talk may very from person to person. Some people tend to use their “rumor mill” as gospel, while others realize that they are just that. Rumors. I’m a fan of what the guys over at PFT do, but I’m also aware that not everything they put in print is exactly supported by anything aside from opinion.
Which leads me to one of today’s rumors. One that’s even titled with “Prediction.” In this case, the word “prediction” is just short for “shot in the dark.” The actual title, you ask?
Prediction: Quinn Will Ask For Green Bay Trade.
Mike Florio gets down with the get down in regard to the fact that Quinn is obviously not happy with the recent signing of Derek Anderson. Now, we can play the argument that Quinn’s lack of a hand on the starting gig is all his fault to begin with as he held out last season, but we won’t even start that debate. Despite the former Notre Dame QB saying all of the right things right now, Florio contends that Tom Condon (Brady’s agent) will be pounding the table before long.
Though he might be fooling himself into thinking that he’s got a shot at winning the starting job this season, Brady Quinn is destined to open 2008 where he finished 2007 — on the bench. After all, the Browns aren’t paying Derek Anderson $8 million per year to hold his helmet next to his ear so that he can listen to the play be called in to the huddle.
More importantly, Quinn needs to get on the field in order to unlock the big-money incentives that his agent, Tom Condon, held him out of training camp in order to get.
Now, while I can’t see Condon sitting on his hands all season long, my first response to this article was “no chance that he goes to Green Bay.” Upon further reading of the prediction, Florio then states that he doesn’t see anything like this happening until 2009, assuming two things:
1) Anderson locks down the starting gig in Cleveland, and…
2.) Aaron Rodgers doesn’t get the job done in Green Bay.
As I mentioned earlier today, DA has a $5 million roster bonus awaiting his wallet after the completion of the 2008 season. Given that, I still contest that it will be Anderson who will be playing for another team come 2009 – and not Quinn.
But hey, that’s just my “prediction.”
